with Adam Rumack – Saturday and Sunday, November 7th & 8th from 12-2:30pm
Come explore the heart of the Ashtanga yoga practice and the roots of Vinyasa flow yoga, through practice and theory. “One by one” we will experience the careful sequencing of breath and movement, experiencing for ourselves the lessons of a quiet mind and calm body.
Krishnamacharya and his student Sri K. Patthabi Jois shared Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with the world, offering an elegant system of hatha yoga for awakening to our true Selves and seeing more clearly the nature of reality.
This method has spread through individuals and practice communities around the world, becoming a seed for the “vinyasa” style yoga classes that have become ubiquitous in the west.
This workshop is appropriate for all levels of yoga practitioner. It’s a great place to begin or deepen your Ashtanga practice, or to experience and learn the roots of Vinyasa Flow yoga.
Saturday we will start at the beginning, with breathing practice, breaking down the Surya Namaskar’s (“Sun Salutations”), which may contain the whole practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, and an overview of the philosophical foundations for the practice.
Sunday we will deepen our understanding of Saturday’s content, while exploring standing postures and the first half of primary series, and touching upon the applied philosophy of Ashtanga yoga.
